Charis Kelley is a distinguished multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, mixed media, ceramics, and large-scale public art. A native of Houston, Texas, Kelley was selected as the commissioned artist for Prairie View A&M University’s historic 150th Anniversary Celebration, creating the University’s signature commemorative artwork honoring a century and a half of excellence, resilience, achievement, and impact.
Kelley has established a strong presence in the contemporary art world through exhibitions in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. Her work has been featured in prestigious venues and events, including Art Basel Miami, the African American Museum in Liberty City, Miami, and the WACO Wearable Art Gala in Los Angeles.
With a foundation in architecture and design, Kelley holds multiple degrees from Prairie View A&M University, including a Bachelor of Architecture, a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science, and a Master of Community Development. She also earned a Master of Fine Arts from Houston Christian University, further refining her practice in painting, mixed media, and ceramics.
Her artistic career extends beyond gallery exhibitions into transformative public and private commissions. Kelley has served as a principal resident artist throughout Houston and has completed significant mural and public art projects for educational institutions, commercial developments, and community initiatives. Her ability to merge artistic storytelling with architectural precision has made her a sought-after artist for collectors, corporations, and cultural institutions.
An active mentor and advocate for emerging artists, Kelley is affiliated with the Houston Arts Alliance, Women in Architecture, and the American Institute of Architecture Students. Her collectors include notable cultural figures such as Drake, Rakim, EPMD, Slick Rick, Jadakiss, KRS-One, and Phylicia Rashad.
