Are there prerequisites for attending Orientation?

  • Student must be admitted to the university
  • ACCUPLACER Test or proof of exemption must be on file to register for classes on the day of orientation
  •  If you are enrolling at Prairie View A&M University for the first-time or as a transfer from another institution, the state of Texas requires students age 29 or younger show evidence of being immunized against bacterial meningitis.

Is there an Orientation fee?

  • First-time students (freshmen) are assessed a non-refundable $75 orientation fee which covers phase I and II of orientation
  • Transfer students are assessed a non-refundable $25 orientation fee which covers phase I of orientation
  • Orientation fees are assessed to the students’ tuition bill, it’s not required at the time of your orientation.

How do I register for orientation?

  • Complete the online registration found on the orientation homepage; spaces are filled on a first come first serve basis

Do parents have to attend orientation?

  • Parents are encouraged to participate in orientation with their student so that everyone is familiar with what is needed to be a success in transitioning to the university.  This service is free to parents and you walk away with tons of information and a better understanding of Prairie View’s policies.

What else should I do before attending orientation?

  • Complete the necessary Financial Aid documents to the university; the Student Financial Services webpage can be accessed on the orientation homepage.
  • Secure your housing.  Freshmen are mailed housing information once admitted.  Freshmen should contact University College Freshman Housing at 936-261-5990 and transfer students should call University Village at 936-261-5963. You can also access the housing website on the orientation homepage.

Do I have to take a Placement Test (Accuplacer, Compass, Asset)?

  • Placement Test must be taken prior to students receiving academic advisement and class registration.  Some are exempt but must show proof.  Contact the Testing Center at 936-261-3610 with questions. However, you can also visit the Testing Center website for additional information.

 I am in a summer program so must I attend Orientation?

  • Students participating in summer programs are still required to participate in New Student Orientation. Your summer department will orient you to your department, but New Student Orientation will acquaint you with the services that the university provides. Students should sign up for an orientation date that will not conflict with their summer program.  Contact your summer department head or our office.

 I am in summer school so must I attend Orientation?

  • Students taking summer classes can contact their department prior to an orientation session to register for classes.  Freshmen should contact University College for class registration at 936-261-5900 and transfer students should call the switchboard and ask for their respective college at 936-261-3311.
  • Summer School students must register to attend an orientation session to register for fall classes.

 I am out of state and cannot come on the dates listed, what do I do?

  • For assistance in scheduling a placement test and/or arrange for the best time to attend your orientation session, contact us at the office 936-261-5920 or via email at nso@pvamu.edu

 Is there an orientation for International students?

  • Prairie View A&M University has appointed a Designated School Official to serve as the International Student Advis0r, whose responsibility it is to advise and assist international students. For further questions please contact Evelyn J. McGinty (ejmcginty@pvamu.edu) or the Immigration Team at immigrationteam@pvamu.edu or call (936) 261-1725.
  • After clearance from the Immigration Services Office, international students will be contacted to attend an orientation session with the office of New Student Orientation

 Why did I receive confirmation for a date I did not select as my first choice?

  • The office does it’s best to give students their first choice of date, but spaces are filled on a first come first serve basis. The office asks students to select a first, second and third choice of date for this reason. Once the maximum capacity is reached for session dates, that date is no longer confirmed and will be removed online.
  • Students may call the office to see there is space for another session. There is no wait list for available sessions.

 Why haven’t I received my confirmation?

  • Online requests takes 3-5 business days to process
  • Confirmations are sent to the email addresses you provide on the form at the time you registered online
  • Check your “spam” or “junk” mail box
  • Call the office at 936-261-5920 or email nso@pvamu.edu to confirm the email address we have on file.

 How Do I access my PantherTracks?

  • You have been assigned a student ID which you need to provide when requested: «ID». Your assigned university email account is: «UNIVEMAIL». Set your email password immediately by visiting https://mypassword.pvamu.edu/ Once you complete this step, please go tohttps://www.pvamu.edu/pvplace which provides easy single sign-on access to online resources like email, registration, financial aid, PVAMU web content and much more. Your email address will be used for all student-related correspondence and should be checked on a regular basis.
  • Issues with Panther Tracks sign on should be addressed to the Password Hotline at 936-261-9361.

 How do I change my date?

  • To change a scheduled orientation, students/parents must contact the office at 936-261-5920 or nso@pvamu.edu. A duplicate online request will not be processed.
  • Your Orientation date and/or any request for changes are not guaranteed until an email confirmation has been received from the office of New Student Orientation.

 I didn’t register in advance, what now?

  • Student information must be verified prior to attendance, orientation sessions are scheduled first come first serve due to limited space availability and to ensure exceptional service.
  • If you have not signed up to attend a session and received confirmation, you are not guaranteed full service if you walk into a session. The office will do it best to serve the student which may call for scheduling for another date.

 What do I bring to Orientation?

  • Refer to and Print your electronic confirmation
  • Bring any documents you need to submit to offices on campus  (i.e. Tax information, Meningitis Shot records)
  • Dress comfortably as you will travel on campus during the orientation session; a light jacket maybe needed for cool rooms
