The two primary objectives of the program are:
- To significantly improve the freshman student retention rate by increasing student involvement and a strong student mentoring system.
- To enhance the students leadership and “soft skills” preparing them for the workplace.
The goal of this Institute has been to identify and empower effective student leaders on our campus.
This Institute has led to the creation of the PALs Network, which, over the years, has proven to be one of the most successful university programs. Interest and involvement by the students has increasingly grown over time from an initial group of 60 students to a peak number of 200 students.
One goal is to enhance the PALs experience during the Annual Student Leadership Institute by adding components designed to incorporate team building concepts, peer mentoring, social development, cultural awareness and leadership skills among students.
