Special Programs and Cultural Series incorporates student learning and student development into its mission and annual offering of extracurricular presentations whose aim is to enhance the overall educational experience. Since its inception in 2004, the Office has sponsored and/or supported activities and programs which students are offered opportunities to participate, lead, learn and grow. Special Programs & Cultural Series supports students learning about varied cultures, healthy interpersonal relationships, self-understanding, and civic responsibility. The office has sponsored programs such as Red Ribbon Day to enhance drug and alcohol awareness, SPIT Knowledge Lecture Series, Can You Run This Institution, Alumni Initiation Pinning Ceremonies, Panther Ambassadors Program, Relay for Life, and National HBCU Week. Students’ leadership abilities have been enhanced by their participation in these programs. Our mission is to inform, enrich, expand and enhance the awareness and cultural climate of the university. Through the ongoing presentation of intellectual and diverse topics, we seek to engage students in social, cultural and recreational programs to develop a well-rounded college experience.
The office builds bridges with others to educate, challenge and develop students. We want to also challenge the community to review their lifestyles, make healthier decisions and deepen their perspectives on topics that may be controversial to some.
