Prairie View A&M University recently hosted members of the Energy Sciences: Experimental and Modeling Consortium (ESEM). The ESEM Consortium aims to employ shared research as a tool to “attract, train and retain minority students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields” and to develop a pipeline of student scholars to seek postgraduate degrees relevant for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) enterprise. The Vice President for Research, Magesh T. Rajan, provided the opening remarks for the team assembled.
The PVAMU Team leads for the consortium are Drs. Gina Chiarella and Ananda Amarasekeara. Also in attendance were Tommy Rockward and Ulises Martinez from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), the Industry Lead, and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Neil Henson.  Rockward stated, “We are looking for attractive candidates to come to our facilities that we can train and retain. We have opportunities that extend beyond the three years. I am excited about the possibilities that this consortium can bring to the universities that are in this partnership”. It is important that we provide opportunities for students to be exposed to the career paths that Los Alamos National Laboratory has to offer.”
