The main objective of this program is to provide opportunities to our students in the field of nuclear engineering and radiation science. The program funded through DOE office of Nuclear Energy is supported by additional funds from DOE-NNSA, NASA, and other agencies. Established in 1876, Prairie View A&amp;M University is one of the leading HBCU institutions with an ABET accredited engineering department. The nuclear program is housed in the Department of Chemical Engineering; however, it is open to all engineering and science majors.<\/p>\n<p>Prairie View A&amp;M University is located within miles of the Houston metropolitan area surrounded by other premium Texas higher education institutions, and provides a unique concentration of a dynamic learning environment in many fields of science, engineering, economics, and business management. It is designed to provide the  students with a scope of the field and career opportunities in it. The  program offers courses, seminars and field trips that give students a  flavor of nuclear sciences and its related fields.<\/p>\n<p>The Panther Pipeline Program strives to offer education and research  opportunity in some of the issues at the forefront&nbsp;of nuclear science  and technology. This includes nuclear engineering, medical physics,  space, nuclear materials, advance energy systems and environmental  fields.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the more traditional engineering disciplines (Civil,  Chemical, Computer, Electrical and Mechanical), the field of nuclear  engineering is a new addition to university educational programs.&nbsp; The  nuclear engineering concentration is an interdisciplinary, multi-college  effort to provide our students an opportunity to pursue careers in  nuclear science and engineering. The introduction of nuclear engineering  concentration at PVAMU is an endower at an ABET accredited, nationally  recognized HBCU, to provide opportunity to the &quot;pioneering&quot; individuals  of our esteemed institution. Paid stipend covers both fall and spring\u00a0semesters. The experimental data of comparison was preformed at the Space Radiation Effects Laboratory in Newport News, Virginia. The comparison was for neutron produced from high energy (710 and 640 MeV) alpha particle colliding onto water and lead target. Variety of detectors; semiconductors, scintillators or proportional counters are sensitive to gamma-rays.
