after serving the university for 28 years. He received his B.S. from Tunghai University, Taichung, Taiwan in 1962, an M.S. and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, College Station in 1968 and 1972 respectively. Before joining PVAMU, He served as a Lecturer at Texas A&M University and an Assistant Professor at the National Central University, Taiwan.

During his tenure at PVAMU, he taught a variety of courses, most notably the University Physics courses for scientists and engineers. He was considered tough and demanding but fair. A sample of his students’ comments below show how he was regarded by his former students.

The entire faculty, students and staff of the Department of Physics bid him a fond farewell, wish him an exciting retirement and feel that he leaves a vacancy that will be hard to fill.

Pictures from the event:

On Campus Celebration

Flashback (from Dr. Bentley’s presentation)

Party at Dr. Kumar’s Home

Sample Endorsements of Dr. Wang’s Teaching:

“Professors like Dr. Wang demand excellence and are challenging, but they bring out the best out of students. Students that have technical course work will lack concrete understanding of physics without Dr. Wang’s caliber of excellence. There, his presence at this university is, without a doubt, essential.” – Matthew Jackson, Chemistry Major

“Dr. Wang pushes his students to their highest capabilities, a thing some might not appreciate. I, on the other hand, admire this characteristic about Dr. Wang and have seen myself reaching heights of learning and understanding in physics that I never would have guessed to have achieved. I would recommend his as a professor and mentor to anyone.” – Oneisha Chapman, Civil Engineering Major

“I have always been impressed by Dr. Wang’s willingness to go the extra mile for his students. I believe that when a professor demonstrates that level of commitment to his or her students, it inspires the students to excel to greater heights. Many of the choices I have made over the past decade are a direct result of the lessons he has taught me in and out of the classroom. I was inspired by Dr. Wang to try my best and achieve the highest degree in academia. Dr. Wang is a testament to his profession.” – Tyrone Porter, Ph.D., University of Cincinnati

“Dr. Wang’s teaching and contributions extend from the classroom to his office and hallways, wherever I have encountered him. He has given me words of wisdom throughout the years, for which I am grateful. He has produced many physics majors including myself. He has so much faith in his students and encourages them to always do their best, to surpass their self-assumed limits.” – Merlyn Pulikkathara, Ph.D. (Physics) from Rice University (2010)

Fa-Chung (Fred) Wang, Ph.D., Professor of Physics Dr. Fred Wang retired on May 31, 2011, as a Professor of Physics, after serving the university for 28 years.
