Today, the College continues this legacy by preparing nurse leaders equipped to address the complex health challenges of the present and the future.<\/p>\n<p>Twice each year, the PVAMU College of Nursing Leadership Lecture Series brings nationally and internationally recognized nurse leaders to campus. These distinguished speakers share insights on critical issues in health care, education, leadership, and policy &#8211; advancing the College\u2019s vision to address the social determinants of health and improve health equity for all.<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with the Good Samaritan Foundation, the College of Nursing is pleased to present the Spring 2026 Leadership Lecture:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health Care, Education &amp; Stakeholders: Views from Diverse Nurse Leaders<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. Danielle McCamey, DNP, ACNP-BC, FAAN, FCCP, FAANP, FADLN<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>Your Talent Will Make Room for You: Leveraging Leadership, Opportunity, and Impact in Nursing<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nWednesday, March 25, 2026<br \/>\n5:00 &#8211; 6:00 p.m.<br \/>\nPVAMU College of Nursing Auditorium<br \/>\n6436 Fannin Street<br \/>\nHouston, Texas<\/p>\n<p>Dr. McCamey is an Assistant Professor and the inaugural Associate Dean for Clinical Partnerships and Innovation at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She is also the Founder, CEO, and President of DNPs of Color, a national organization dedicated to increasing diversity in doctoral education, clinical practice, and nursing leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Her work focuses on building inclusive leadership pipelines, strengthening clinical partnerships, and advancing opportunities for underrepresented nurses across the profession.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Partnership with the Good Samaritan Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PVAMU College of Nursing is proud to partner with the Good Samaritan Foundation (GSF), which is providing support for the 2026\u20132027 Leadership Lecture Series.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1951 by Reverend Clyde Verheyden and six community leaders, the Good Samaritan Foundation has a long-standing legacy of cultivating highly skilled nurses devoted to the health and well-being of Texans. My interest in becoming a nurse comes from a very personal experience during my childhood. My grandfather suffered a heart attack at home, and when he collapsed, the impact caused severe brain damage that left him in a vegetative state for months before his passing. During this time, my family saw firsthand how differently he was treated by various healthcare staff simply because of his condition and older age. There were days when he didn\u2019t receive even the most basic care, and my grandmother would have to step in herself to make sure he was clean and cared for. But there were also nurses who were truly compassionate and ensured he received the appropriate care he deserved, and those are the nurses my grandmother still remembers to this day. Seeing all of this showed me how much of a difference nurses can make, both good and bad. She is also the Nurse Scientist and Principal Investigator for the BeWellTogether grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Dr. Banister is the former executive director of the Institute for Patient Care and former director of the Yvonne L. Munn Center for Nursing Research at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She was the inaugural Connell\u2013Jones Endowed Chair for Nursing and Patient Care Research. She assisted in ensuring that Nursing and Patient Care Services at MGH sustained and advanced its exemplary professional practice environment. This included supporting education and professional development, research, patient education, and innovation.<br \/>\nDr. Banister is certified as a nurse executive, advanced (NEA-BC), a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and has received the American Nurses Association\u2019s Mary Eliza Mahoney award and the American Organization of Nurse Executives\u2019 Prism award for her outstanding achievements and leadership in promoting the integration, retention, and advancement of minorities in nursing.
