These faculty members are more than instructors—they are living examples of the PVAMU legacy, returning to their alma mater to invest in the next generation of nurses, just as their mentors once invested in them.

A Legacy Rooted in Mentorship

For many faculty, their journey back to Prairie View began as students, shaped by faculty who were both rigorous and deeply committed. Reflecting on her experience, Dr. Antonea’. Jackson shared, “The faculty were firm but caring, competent and committed, and dedicated to the profession and our success. They instilled the legacy of PV and what it really meant to be a Prairie View nurse.” Similarly, Dr. Pamela Cormier emphasized the influence of faculty role models, stating, “They personified strength, excellence, and a wealth of knowledge that provided a clear vision as to why I wanted to be a nurse and the nurse I aspired to be.” These foundational experiences shaped not only their clinical competence but also their identity as professional nurses and future educators.

Paying It Forward: Returning to PVAMU

For many, returning to PVAMU was not simply a career decision, it was a calling rooted in purpose and gratitude. Faculty reflections include: “From a student, I knew I would return to give back in the way faculty gave so selflessly to me… Seeing students achieve their dream of becoming a PV nurse is truly my dream career,” and “The fulfillment of being a faculty member at my alma mater to train the next generation of nurses is immeasurable.” This shared commitment reflects a deep sense of responsibility to continue the legacy of excellence that defines PVAMU nursing.

Honoring Those Who Came Before

At the heart of each faculty member’s story is gratitude for the mentors who helped shape their journey. Dr. Lauren Dunn offers a powerful tribute, particularly honoring Dr. Jackson: “Dr. Jackson has been my mentor forever… watching her navigate and excel in nursing allowed me to follow her path and now I’m Dr. Dunn doing the same for my students.” Eugenie Snaith, MSN-Ed, RN, reflects on a guiding principle passed down through mentorship: “It is your responsibility as the faculty to set the tone of your class—this continues to guide my teaching, leadership, and student engagement.” These tributes highlight the lasting impact of PVAMU faculty—not only as educators, but as lifelong mentors.

Full Circle: From Student to Educator

For many faculty, returning to Prairie View represents a meaningful full-circle moment. Dr. Lakeshur Green shared, “It is an honor to give back to the same institution that helped shape my career,” while Esmy Samuel shared, “Returning to PVAMU as faculty has truly been a full-circle experience… PVAMU has always felt like home, and coming back to serve where I was once trained is both an honor and a responsibility I deeply value.” Similarly, Dr. LaKeshia. Henderson reflected on the significance of returning: “Returning to my alma mater was both intentional and meaningful—I am inspired to educate the next generation of nurses and uphold the rich legacy established by those who came before us.” For these faculty, teaching is not just a profession—it is a continuation of a legacy.

Shaping the Next Generation of Nurses

Today, these alumni-turned-educators carry forward the mission of the College of Nursing—preparing students for clinical excellence, leadership, and service. Dr. Cindy Wallace describes the profound influence of faculty on her journey: “They left a strong and colorful imprint on my life… helping to paint the picture of the nurse I am today.” Through their teaching, mentorship, and dedication, PVAMU nursing faculty continue to shape students into confident, compassionate, and competent nurses.

A Legacy That Lives On

As PVAMU celebrates both Nurses Week and Teacher Appreciation Week, the College of Nursing honors these faculty who exemplify excellence in both practice and education. They are products of excellence, stewards of legacy, and architects of the future. Through their commitment, the Prairie View legacy lives on—in every student they teach, every lesson they share, and every life they impact.

Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing
Honoring the Past.
