The morning began with a welcoming networking breakfast, setting a warm, collegial tone and laying the groundwork for meaningful exchanges. It then highlighted the Collegiate Dance Company, directed by Professor Sherry Harper. The exquisite moves of Briara Dorshea King, President of the Classic Dance Ensemble, proved that \u201cExcellence lives\u2026\u201d on the Hill at Prairie View A&amp;M University.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the event was the powerful keynote address delivered by Cecily Darden, former Assistant Secretary for Family Outreach and Engagement at the U.S. Department of Education. Drawing a compelling analogy, she compared family-school partnerships to trees enduring turbulent winds\u2014emphasizing that with deep, well-nourished roots, these partnerships can withstand even the most uncertain climates. Her message underscored the enduring power of collaboration and resilience in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n<p>Complementing Darden\u2019s message, Shannon Lang, State Coordinator for the Family\/Parent Initiative, offered a second keynote that deepened the metaphor. She described how the roots of a tree, even when unseen, can carry fire underground\u2014a symbol of how passion for family engagement and literacy can ignite movements of change. Lang shared her team\u2019s ongoing exploration into Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs), aiming to better equip pre-service teachers with the tools and mindset to build lasting partnerships with families.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most interactive portions of the event was the Challenges &amp; Solutions Roundtable, where attendees identified key barriers to family engagement and engaged in collaborative brainstorming. The insights gathered during this session will shape the foundation for the next consortium meeting, scheduled for mid-September, where relevant research and evidence-based strategies will be shared in response to the challenges identified.<\/p>\n<p>The event concluded with an Action Planning Session, where participants outlined collective goals and defined actionable steps to sustain momentum and deepen their collaborative efforts throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>This impactful event was made possible through the leadership and vision of <strong>Dr. Kamala Williams<\/strong>, Director of the Northwest Houston Center, and <strong>Dr. La\u2019Shonte Williams<\/strong>, with vital support from <strong>Dr. Camile Gibson<\/strong>, Interim Dean of the Office of Graduate Studies. It was skillfully organized by <strong>Johnnie L. Brown<\/strong>, Educational Leadership Doctoral Intern, whose dedication brought together voices from across districts, universities, and community agencies. The event was a resounding step forward in uniting family engagement leaders from surrounding districts, universities and community agencies in a common mission: to support student success through Information about Testing<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A test proctoring form for an exam must be submitted at least 72 hours before the first exam is administered.<\/li>\n<li>Proctored Testing will be held only on Thursday's and Friday's.<\/li>\n<li>Students must make an appointment for testing as seating in the lab is limited and there will possibly be multiple exams occurring on the same day. <\/li>\n<li>It is the instructor's responsibility to inform their students on when their test will open and close so that students can make their appointments correctly. Also, instructors should inform their students on what items they are permitted to bring to use on the test (i.e. calculator, formula sheets, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>The Northwest Houston Center will provide the following items for student testing: scratch paper, pencils, hand sanitize, and tissue.<\/li>\n<li>No student will be able to make an appointment or begin a test before 10:00 am and the testing lab will close at 5:00 pm on all test dates.<\/li>\n<li>Students will be able to make an appointment for a test date until the day before the test date. After a test date is closed, students will have to choose a different test date.<\/li>\n<li>If a student(s) needs to reschedule their exam, they will reschedule with their instructor and the instructor <strong>must submit a new test proctoring form for the exam and student to the Northwest Houston Center<\/strong> within 72 hours before the first exam is administered and the student must make a new appointment.<\/li>\n<li>All students that register and take exams in the Northwest Houston Center agree to adhere to all rules and regulations found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pvamu.edu\/universitycollege\/home\/ae\/testing-2\/pvamu-cheating-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\">Testing Services - Academic Integrity Policy<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If a student is caught cheating on an exam, instructors will be sent a report about the incident and the cheating will be reported to the Office of Student Conduct. The instructor will need to contact and coordinator with Student Conduct about next steps. If the student is ban from utilizing the Northwest Houston Center as a testing site because of cheating, it will be communicated to the instructor and student by the Northwest Houston Center and it will be the instructor's responsibility to assist the student with taking their exams.<\/li>\n<li>PVAMU students with disabilities that need to take an exam for a PVAMU course, must take their exams with the Office of Disability Services.
