Encyclopedias and Guides

Corsini Encyclopedia of Psychology and Behavioral Science. 3rd ed. (REF BF31 .E52 2001)
Excellent general source for beginning and advanced students and a good starting point for subject searching of this discipline.

Encyclopedia of Applied Developmental Science. Sage, 2005 (REF HQ767.84 .E52 2005)
Provides an excellent overview of this redefined field with a list of entries at the beginning to help the reader know what the work contains. The Reader’s Guide lists entries by 30 broad topic areas, including child development, culture and diversity, personality and development, and social issues, making it easy for users to locate relevant information.

Encyclopedia of Human Behavior. Academic Press. (REF BF31 .E5 1994)
This source presents 250 signed articles focusing primarily on physiological, abnormal and clinical psychology and cognition. Each article provides a glossary, bibliography and cross-references. Indexed by author, title and subject.

Encyclopedia of Psychology. Oxford. (REF BF31 .E52 2000)
Spend some time examining the features of this encyclopedia, and you’ll find out why it has been heralded for scholarship and comprehensive coverage of this field. Especially interesting is the Synoptic Outline of Contents in volume 8, which serves as a classified reference, listing conceptual categories of psychology and relationships within each broad area. Under the category “Biographies” is the list of 400 names of the psychologists included in the set.

Dictionaries

Beside the main section of entries in alphabetical order, this book provides indexes of names, interests and institutions as well as an index of key terms.

This up-to-date dictionary contains numerous references to relevant concepts and terms in the field of multicultural psychology.  Definitions are written in concise language for easy comprehension in a familiar and convenient standard dictionary format.

Provides a current, accessible and comprehensive guide to the major terms and concepts encountered in psychology.  Each entry is placed alphabetically for ease of use and gives a clear definition followed by relevant examples, links to further reading, and website references that point to additional resources for study.

An authoritative 4-volume reference that spans the entire field of child development and has set the standard against which all other scholarly references are compared.

Center for Disease Control.  The U.S. Government’s Center for Disease Control looks at health and illness through an A-Z index. Excellent and trustworthy information.

MedlinePlus  Authoritative information from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations. Information on >700 topics covering diseases, conditions and wellness, as well as extensive information about drugs, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, interactive patient tutorials, and latest health news.

WebMD  A comprehensive index of diseases and conditions from A-Z.
