Almanac of American Politics. Ed. Michael Barone and Richard E. Cohen. Washington: National Journal, 1972–.

[REF JK 1012 .A44] Summarizes the state of American politics at both national and state levels, giving voting results on key issues and state-by-state analyses of political concerns. Updated every two years.

America Votes. Ed. Richard M. Scammon. Washington: Congressional Quarterly, 1956–. [REF JK 1967 .A8] A biennial summary of state and national election returns; useful for historical as well as current information.

CQ Almanac Plus. Washington: Congressional Quarterly, 2001– [REF JK 1021 C565 2000].An annual summation of U.S. politics that analyzes key issues, important legislation, voting records of congressional representatives, and major Supreme Court decisions. Continues Congressional Quarterly Almanac (1945–2000).

CQ Weekly Report. Washington: Congressional Quarterly, 1967– [Ready Reference JK 1 .C15]

A weekly publication covering events in Washington. Includes a detailed index every six months. Another weekly that provides similar coverage is the National Journal. Also available and searchable through the CQ Electronic Library (see below).

Political Handbook of the World. Ed. Arthur S. Banks and Thomas C. Muller. Binghamton: CSA Publications, 1927– [REF JF 37 .P6].

Covers countries of the world, giving basic background information, discussions of political parties and structures, and analyses of current political trends. Updated annually.

American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News: Country Profiles https://abcnews.go.com/International/ Features profiles of different countries, presented by American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News Internet Ventures. Includes information on the history, culture, geography, natural resources, government, politics, economics, and demographics of each country. Provides color maps, flags, and sound files of national anthems. Available, along with related articles, from the ABC news home page by searching for “country profile” for all countries or “country profile” and the country name for a specific country.

American National Election Studies https://electionstudies.org/ Data on voting, public opinion, and political participation.

BBC News Country Profiles hhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/country_profiles/default.stm Full profiles provide an instant guide to history, politics and economic background of countries and territories, and background on key institutions, including audio and video clips from BBC archives

CIA World  Factbook  https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/ The World Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world entities. Most countries include entries for the “Judicial Branch” (contains the name(s) of the highest court(s) and a brief description of the selection process for members) and the “Legal system” (provides the description of a country’s legal system.)
