Full length journal, magazine and newspaper articles can be found in our online article collections.

If a book or article cannot be found in PVAMU’s resources, it can usually be borrowed from another library. Fill out the Interlibrary Loan form, and please note that it may take several weeks to receive the item.

Find Books

Use the Online Library Catalog to locate books in the library. Several books on Art are available in the Reserve Reading Room under “Dorsey”.   • JSTOR Covers the arts, humanities, and social sciences, including architecture, art, history, archaeology, literature, philosophy, and related disciplines.
  • World Cat (OCLC) is also a union (i.e. collective) catalog of records of different types of material (books, exhibition catalogs, periodicals, scores, films, recordings, etc.) cataloged by over 8,000 OCLC member libraries from libraries in the United States. It is updated daily. This database may be used to verify citations of items not found in J. B. Coleman library, to find a needed item in another local library, or to provide accurate citations for interlibrary loan requests.

World Art Treasures

Archives of American Art ( of the Smithsonian Institution, the Archives collects primary sources including illustrated letters and diaries, manuscripts, records of museums, galleries and schools, photographs of art world figures and events, and works of art on paper.

Created by John Malyon, an IT professional, web developer, and entrepreneur, as a comprehensive index of every artist represented at hundreds of museum sites, image archives, and other online resources.
AskART is an online database containing over 100,000 artists. From its inception the focus was on American artists from the early 16th-Century through the present. However, in January of 2007 the database has expanded to include international artists’ auction records. It offers biographical information about American artists as well as book and periodical references, along with
International artists’ auction records and images. Over 6,000 museums and dealers are also referenced.

One of the search resources of the Getty Museum. A database of modern and historical names, coordinates, and descriptions of geographic places, arranged in hierarchical order. Good resource for searching glossary both arts and architecture.
