Texas Success Initiative (TSI) 

The TSI requires students to be assessed in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics skills PRIOR to enrolling in college and to be advised based on the results of the assessment. Please review the following Prairie View A&M University incoming student information. Prairie View A&M University uses the TSI Assessment as the tool for TSI. Student must have valid documentation for a placement test exemption (see below) on file with the University Admissions Office or must have taken and passed all sections of the current ACPE prior to enrolling in college-level classes. A student is exempt from taking the TSI Assessment based on the following test scores (minimum):

 Writing or Other Verbal Math
SAT (SAT II scores are not acceptable) 1070 (Combined)  AND a 500 500
ACT 23 Composite  AND a 19 19

SAT and ACT scores are only valid for 5 years from the date of testing and all requirements listed above must be met on the same test date. Students wishing to be exempt from the TSI Assessment must have the minimum SAT/ACT Combined/Composite scores above. You may be partially exempt if you meet the minimum Combined or Composite score AND the minimum Verbal or Math scores.

 Other exemptions include:

  • A student who has graduated with an associate or baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • A student who is serving on active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States, the Texas National Guard, or as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States and has been serving for at least three years preceding enrollment. A certified copy of orders or documentation showing length of service is required.
  • A student who on or after August 1, 1990, was honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States. A certified copy of the certificate of release is required.
