Eta Kappa Nu

Eta Kappa Nu

Scholarship is a key entity in being a successful engineer. Due to the challenges that an engineering student faces it is important to honor those that overcome them and excel. Eta Kappa Nu  honors students that excel academically. Eta Kappa Nu was formed as a result of the vision of Maurice L. Carr, an electrical engineering student at the University of Illinois. He shared his vision (“A unique organization that recognizes academic excellence in engineering”) with nine other students, and together hey founded HKN on October 28, 1904. Also, the founding group selected The Wheatstone Bridge as the emblem of HKN.

Eta Kappa Nu is a nonprofit, public-service organization comprising nearly 200 university chapters, a variety of committees, about 250,000 members, many active member volunteers, and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It’s mission is to strive to develop a school students want to learn in, an industry professionals want to work in, and a community people want to live in.  Membership is available to outstanding juniors and seniors. Graduate students and distinguished professional engineers may also join. Eligibility, naturally, must depend on marked ability, as evidenced by scholarship, personal character, useful voluntary services, and distinguished accomplishments, all of which indicate that the candidate will be or is a success in his profession.

The Eta Kappa Nu chapter founded at our prestigious University on April 3, 1973 is named the Zeta Lambda Chapter. Our Office is located in room NENR 129 in the New Engineering building along with the Tau Beta Pi office.  At PVAMU,  we  honor scholarship and Leadership amongst the Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept. Our vision is to utilize our leadership amongst the members to maintain and enrich the learning environment in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. To maintain our vision many activities have been done and are being planned. Those activities consist of a food drive, Pantherland day, departmental tutoring, bake sales, and membership resume books for career fair and various seminars dealing with our department and career. The Chapter also works very closely with the IEEE and TBP branch in presenting company presentations throughout the semester. These events give members a number of chances to develop close contacts with both locally owned enterprises as well as international corporations.
