She also obtained a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership through the Leadership Institute for Nonprofit Executives from the Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies at Rice University. Dr. Spears has been in the field of Social Work for over thirty years, serving in several social work roles, i.e., a case manager, medical social worker, aging planner, program developer and grant writer, trainer, and consultant. Before joining the Social Work Dept., she served as a State 4-H Leader with the Cooperative Extension Program at Prairie View &amp; M University. As a clinical social worker, he provided mental health services to youth and their families at juvenile justice facilities and nonprofit agencies. He owns and operates a private practice specializing in first-time juvenile offenders.
