Welcome to the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) in the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering at Prairie View A&M University on the Hill. The department offers Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at the undergraduate level and offers minor program with two options; civil engineering and environmental engineering. In addition, department also offers the Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) program with two concentrations, civil engineering and environmental engineering through this department. The department has faculty that are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. The department has a very low faculty to student ratio, maintains a great learning environment and is committed to high level of customer service.
Civil & Environmental Engineering department, the college of engineering and the university take pride in maintaining the small school atmosphere. It can be experienced as you step onto our beautiful campus on the hill. Faculty have expanded office hours that support close interaction and one on one advising and mentoring during the course of study here.
The Civil Engineering program is accredited by Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. Currently the undergraduate civil engineering program offers at least two courses in each of the four focus areas; environmental, structures, transportation and water resources engineering. The department has excellent laboratories in all the focus areas of civil engineering and students have a great opportunity to get hands on training. The department has dedicated Freshman and Transfer student advisors to work with the incoming students and make the transition from High School or another institution smooth. All graduates normally leave the university with a job offer or were offered jobs within few months of graduation. Students are encouraged to and are assisted in finding summer internship placements.
The department has offered a summer program, the Summer Transportation Institute (STI) since 2000. This program is funded by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and is designed for High School students who are in the 10th and 11th grade. For more information about the STI program, visit (www.pvamu.edu/sti).
