Agents and specialists were able to learn more about the new Explore Clothing and Textiles: Explore Selling Your Handicrafts Guide, during the Texas 4-H Summit held recently at the 4-H Center in Lake Brownwood. This publication, due out December 2017, is the latest manual to guide volunteers, agents, and 4-H youth with a step-by-step approach to teaching and learning beginning sewing skills.

CEP 4-H Specialist Joice A. Jeffries and TAMU Specialist Angela McCorkle presented Explore Sewing Machine Basics, a session highlighting six skilled-lessons. Participants can follow simple lessons, execute various sewing activities, and practice to reinforce necessary skills while working on fun, easy projects. At the end of participating in all lessons, the youth will have earned the Sewing License. 4-H members will be ready to hit the road to creative sewing, participating in clothing and textiles competitions, and formulating their businesses, if desired.

The series of the six programs include: Know Your Sewing Machine, Sewing a Line, Sewing Equipment, Ironing and Pressing, Hand Sewing and Sewing Machine License. All resources and projects in the booklet were a collaboration between Specialists Joice A. Jeffries (CEP), Angela McCorkle (TAMU) and Charlene Belew (TAMU).
