CAHS Sophomore, Olivia Greenwood

November 15 – This year, a Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) College of Agriculture and Human Sciences Sophomore has won the 2021 Irrigation Association E3 program. She was one of fifteen students competing.

Olivia Greenwood will represent the AGRI13411 course, CAHS, and PVAMU in the national meeting. In December, she will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the Irrigation Association Show and Education week in San Diego, California. Bolstered by CAHS scientists Ripendra Awal, Ph.D., and Ali Fares, Ph.D., Olivia Greenwood applied to the program to broaden her understanding of agriculture and embrace the various sectors of the industry.

“The E3 program puts student winners in an environment where we can act like sponges and soak up all the knowledge that will be accessible to us,” Greenwood said.

After setbacks due to covid, students will now be allowed to gain hands-on experience and travel to participate in the program. They will be practicing how to hone their skills, install and learn the tasks it takes to maintain irrigation systems. Not only will students grow in their studies, but they’ll also seize the opportunity to learn from the Toro Company on how to run an irrigation company.

The winners were required to submit an essay detailing the importance of this program and how it can impact their education. CAHS has had student winners in this program for the last eight years
