Completed Projects


The Department of Campus Planning and Space Management works in partnership with PV’s contracted facilities services provider, SSC, to maintain a safe, healthy and attractive campus environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors by providing both direct and advisory services in the design, construction and maintenance of new and existing facilities that support the evolving needs of the University’s teaching, research and service mission.


Projects:

The Campus Planning & Space Management Department tracks the various Capital Improvement and Repair & Rehabilitation projects across the main campus in Prairie View, TX, Northwest Houston Center and the College of Nursing in Houston, TX.

Capital Improvement Projects:

Capital projects are any renovation and repair project or new construction that costs more than $4,000,000. These projects require approval from the Board of Regents and are tracked on the PV’s Capital Improvement Plan . PV’s Capital Plan, a five-year outlook, is updated annually to identify major improvements, capital projects, an$d land acquisitions, and includes a projected schedule and financing strategies for each.  The Plan provides a link between the University’s academic plan$22M and capital budget.

Farrell Hall Dinning Renovation

To renovate Farrell Hall to a Resident Dining Hall.


Welcome  Center

New single-story building for welcoming and informing visitors to the University Campus. Building elements include an overhang canopy, offices, multi-purpose gathering space, meeting room, catering kitchen, gallery space, gift shop and building support spaces.


 Commuter & Staff Parking Lot Additions

Providing these parking lots will allow vehicular traffic to park in various locations of the campus main core which will help reduce the amount of traffic in transiting areas where pedestrian traffic is prevalent. Shuttle bus service will make the parking lots attractive to students and visitors alike, reducing the requirement for vehicles to enter the campus core. Commuter students will be able to access open parking for easier access to internal campus facilities.


Campus Northeast Road Extension

The street improvements are being proposed to provide safe and better access within the campus for pedestrians and vehicles.Due to the critical role that these roads play for all on the Prairie View A&M University Campus, it is important to address these issues and make improvements so that vehicle and pedestrian traffic are able to navigate the campus safely and in an efficient manner. Providing this loop extension will allow vehicular traffic to “bypass” streets that are regularly used by students and university personnel. The addition of this street will provide better access and improve safety for the vehicles using the streets, as well as nearby pedestrians.

Early Childhood Learning Academy

The Early Childhood Learning Academy provides diversified educational services to our constituents and serves multi-dimensional purpose in the area of teacher education. The Academy will be set-up as a laboratory school, providing experiences for undergraduate students in cognitive, psychomotor, and the social development of young children.


Campus Beautification

 (1) a landscape median on University Drive to create a new and improved appearance as visitors approach the main campus entrance; (2) a reflecting pool north of the JB Coleman Library; (3) an improved gathering place for students with event stage in the center corridor of campus; and (4) a planting enhancement for the gateway to the engineering complex corridor.


Energy Consumption Reduction Project

The Addition of metering on all delivered systems (natural gas, heat, chilled water, domestic water, and electric), revamping of all interior and exterior lighting with LED / energy efficient lighting, and upgrade of thermal systems and controls to reduce cost and increase life cycle.


Military ROTC Building

Construct a new Military Service Building for Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC's. The facility will include classrooms, computer lab, Navy simulation computer lab, offices, armory for non-active fire arms and supply store room.


New University Police Department

An Emergency Response Coordination Center and University Police Facility


Intramural Fields

Development of athletic fields to support outdoor intramural sports activities

SSC Oversight:


PVAMU’s contracted facilities services provider, SSC, provides facilities maintenance services to include custodial care, Grounds maintenance, Utilities Management and maintenance and repair. The Department of Campus Planning and Space Management works closely with SSC to ensure quality, timely services are provided.
