Hurricane Harvey has caused massive flooding across Houston and in surrounding areas. As a result, entire communities have been devastated and displaced. Families have been evacuated from their homes and roads have become impassible.

Due to the terrible toll that the flooding has had on the region and out of concern for the safety of the entire PV Nation, University officialsĀ have made the decision to postpone several events that were scheduled to take place this week and Labor Day weekend.

The Welcome Reception being held in honor of Interim President Ruth J. Simmons originally scheduled for Thursday, August 31 has been postponedĀ until September 21. The University will honor the reservationsĀ of guests who have previously responded and registration will now remain open through September 21.

The Prairie View A&M Foundation has also rescheduled its gala to Friday, October 20, 2017.

Both the reception and the gala will still be held at theĀ Hilton Americas, 1600 Lamar Street, Houston, Texas 77010.

Additionally, Saturdayā€™s football matchup between Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern will be rescheduled for BBVA Compass Stadium on Thanksgiving Weekend, with a date and time to be announced. The matchup was last played on Thanksgiving Weekend in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. Panther football is now scheduled to open the 2017 season Thursday, Sept. 7 hosting Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m. at Panther Stadium in a live nationally televised game on ESPNU.
