The Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences will now house an expanded surface science research facility thanks to funding from Title III/National Science Foundation/Department of Defense.
Formerly the research laboratory of Professor Hylton G. McWhinney, professor of Chemistry, the facility now serves as a core surface and interfacial characterization laboratory to support the expansion and improved quality of research at Prairie View A&M University. This facility comprises of a PHI 5600 chemical imaging X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer (XPS) and a JEOL JSM 6010 LV/ LA Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) as the core research instruments. A major focus will be to strengthen both multidisciplinary intra-university and external collaborative partnerships by providing a space for researchers, both faculty and students, across academic fields of study to submit samples for analysis.
Interested researchers are asked to submit samples directly to the facility located in Room 220 in E.E. O’Banion Science Building.
