PRAIRIE VIEW, TX - Several Prairie View A&M women's track and field athletes had stellar performances during the 90th PV Relays held at the Prairie A&M University Track and Field Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Panthers completed the meet with 245 overall points, posting points in the various areas (36) sprints, (27) hurdles, (47) distance, (70) throws, and (65) jumps. Central Oklahoma finished behind PV with 103 pts., (3) TSU had 51 pts., (4) Huston-Tillotson 30 points, (5) Southwestern Christian College, (6) University of North American 2 pts, and Wiley University closed out with 2 pts as well to round out all teams.
The 90th PV Relays opened with field events on Friday. The Lady Panthers Freshman
Keonna Otis placed second in the Shot Put with a 12.8m (42'0") mark, while sophomore
Krislyn Green finished fourth respectively with a 10.61m mark (34'9.75). In the women's pole vault, senior
Maci Guy had a second-place finish with a 3.22m mark (10'6.75), while teammate junior
Jordyn Hubbert finished third with a 2.45m mark (8'0.5"). Freshman Madison Mulkelroy finished fourth with a 2.45m mark (8'0.5").
Sophomore
Sanai Kintchen finished first in the women's long jump with a personal best mark of 5.80m (19'0.5") while junior
Savoria Anderson was third with a jump of 5.46m (17'11") and sophomore
Demeri Duplechain finished seventh with a leap of 5.04m (16'6.5"). Junior
Morgan Davila made her presence known with a 1.60m mark (5'3") and a second-place finish in the high jump, while Muckelroy finished in third with a 1.55m (5'1") mark. Anderson notched a first-place spot in the women's triple jump with a 12.27m (40'3.25") mark and junior Ajacia Miles had a 10.81 (35'5.75") jump.
In the final field events on Friday for the colleges and universities, the Lady Panthers Otis had a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 41.97 (137'8"), while sophomore
Kaylan Woodrow placed third with a throw of 36.49 (119'9"). Five Lady Panthers finished in order taking the top five places in the women's javelin. Otis led the charge with a first-place finish with a mark of 29.54m (96'11"), while Miles had a second-place finish with a mark of 26.5m (86'11"), and Woodrow (25.86m | 84'10), Green (22.72m | 74"6"), Kintchen (19.33m | 63"5") finished third, fourth and fifth respectively. The teams rounded out the day with the hammer throw with Woodrow placing second with a mark of 36.48m (119'8").
The Friday afternoon events opened with the women's 400m dash. Sophomore Jasmir Miller placed second with a time of 57.01, senior Jai'Lynn Smith was third with a time of 58.40, sophomore
Miracle Price finished sixth with a time of 1:00.73, while freshman
Kyah Shannon had an eighth-place finish with a time of 1:03.02 to round out the Lady Panthers opening running event. PVAMU had three ladies' place times in the 800m dash with junior
Zara Richardson crossing the line with a 2:1613 time and a first-place finish. Freshman
Maya Clark was fourth with a time of 2:25.07 and sophomore Kamar Bradley closed the dash out with a sixth-place finish and a time of 2:37.50.
The 400-meter hurdles was the next event for the Lady Panthers. Freshman
Lashavia Barclay crossed the line first with a time of 1:04.49. Junior
Corlasia Scott was second with a time of 1:05.62,
Kara Stewart (10 and
Justyce Thomas closed out the 400 hurdles in fourth and fifth place respectively. There were five top finishes in the women's 1500m including a first-place finish by freshman
Christina Fitzpatrick with a time of 5:08.75. Sophomore
Miracle Price was second behind Fitzpatrick with a time of 5.18.85, while freshman
Maya Clark had a fourth-place finish with a time of 5:30.94. Sophomore Kamara Bradley was fifth with a time of 5:30.99 and junior Titillope Akinwunmi rounded the team out at 7th-place and a time of 5:51.19.
In the university's women's 200m dash, the Lady Panthers senior
Asjah Harris led the charge with a time of 23.95 followed by
Darnisha Lykes at 25.12. A'Marie Khan finished in seventh with a time of 25.30, while
Jasir Miller had a time of 25,39 and an eighth-place finish. The ladies continued their wrath in the running events with a top finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The A squad of Lykes, Price, Richardson, and Miller was atop with a first-place finish and a time of 3:47.07. The C squad of Smith, Anderson, Burks, and Khan had a third-place finish with a time of 4:00.35. Teams B and D finished seventh and eighth respectively with the squads of Stewart, Barclay, Scott, and Thomas (4:04.47). Team D consisted of Duplechain, Clark, Bradley, and
Kyah Shannon (4:06.47).
The Lady Panthers concluded the competition on Saturday, March 23rd, but before getting onto the track two senior athletes were presented with their senior gifts (
Asjah Harris & Jai'Lynn Smith). There were outstanding performances in the 4x100m relay with the quartet of Lykes, Kintchen, Burks, and Harris winning a stadium record 45.44, while the quartet of Khan, Guy, Scott, and Miller finished in fourth with their time of 47.70.
The ladies continued their wrath in the relays with Kintchen topping first place with a time of 14.13 in the 100m hurdles. Stewart was second with a time of 14.35, while Barclay had a time of 14.94 and a third-place finish. Thomas (15.52), Guy (15.57), and Anderson (16.02) finished sixth, seventh, and ninth. Harris and Lykes were first and second respectively in the 100m dash with their time of 11.53 and 11.92 while Khan was fourth with a 12.17 time senior. The Lady Panthers finished the two-day competition winning the 4x400m relay in stellar fashion. The A team of Lykes, Price, Richardson, and Miller finished with a time of 45.44. The B squad of Khan, Guy, Scott, and Miller had a fourth-place finish with a time of 47.70.
The team will resume competition next weekend at the Florida Pepsi Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
