Prairie View A&M University is proud to present the third annual Black History Month Juried Art Exhibition Opening Reception, tonight at 6 p.m. in the John B. Coleman Library First Floor Art Gallery. Student artists were encouraged to submit artwork encompassing the University’s theme, “The Awakening: “Know who you are before they have to tell you.”  Cash prizes in the amounts of $500, $1,500, $2,000 and $2,500 will be awarded to the winners. Submissions of the following mediums were accepted: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, photography, and video.

Painter, sculptor and educator, Anthony Suber, will serve as the 2018 juror. His work focuses on historical references, spirituality and the contemporary African American experience through the lens of his personal experiences of religion and social relationships in a post-modern society. Suber has also served as a competition and exhibition juror in previous years.
