Prairie View A&M University is collaborating this summer with the Department of Nuclear Engineering and the Nuclear Power Institute at Texas A&M University by participating in the Systems Engineering Initiative- Nuclear Science, Technology, and Education for Molten Salt Reactors (SEI-NuSTEM). SEI-NuSTEM is part of a Grand Challenge Integrated Research Project with the Nuclear Energy University Program in the U. S. Department of Energy (DoE).Ā  In addition to TAMU, other partners include the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.Ā  There is also international collaboration.Ā  Two PVAMU engineering students will work with investigators at TAMU: one doing experimental research and one doing modeling and simulation research.Ā Dr. Richard Wilkins, PVAMU professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will supervise the selected students and participate in the research activities.Ā  One of the projectā€™s goals is to support the engineering workforce in nuclear power.

PVAMUā€™s participation in the SEI-NuSTEM is part of a continuing collaboration between Roy G. Perry College of Engineering at PVAMU and the TAMU Department of Nuclear Engineering and the Nuclear Power Institute.Ā This collaboration includes building student pipelines for graduate work in the nuclear engineering field and has had support from the DoE and the Department of Homeland Security.
