Prairie View A&M Claims 2021 SWAC Women's Bowling Championship

Final Results

ARLINGTON, Texas- The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers displayed resiliency, determination and focus as they rebounded from a day two loss to claim the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Bowling Championship in spectacular fashion.

Led by 2021 SWAC Women’s Bowling Championship Most Valuable Bowler Patricia Rosales, along with All-Tournament selections Asia Wren and Crystal Cline the Lady Panthers defeated Jackson State 4-2 in match ten of the tournament to force an eleventh and deciding match.

Prairie View A&M won that match by an identical margin of 4-2 as the Lady Panthers went on to win their second consecutive post season title (2019/2021).

The Lady Panthers' run during the 2020-21 regular season was as equally impressive as the streak they went on during tournament competition this postseason.

With a 16-4 overall record in league action, the Lady Panthers won their third-straight regular season crown during the 2020-21 campaign. It was also the fourth regular season conference championship in five years for the program.

The Lady Panthers placed a trio of bowlers on the 2020-21 All-SWAC First Team, led by junior Crystal Cline, who earned her third-straight first team selection after posting an average pinfall of 195.05, good for second in the league.

Freshman Cheyenne Washington made an impressive debut in her first year on the lanes for the Lady Panthers, racking up a pinfall average of 194.71 which was third-best in the SWAC, second among freshmen, on her way to a first team selection at the conclusion of the regular season.

2020 SWAC Bowler of the Year Patricia Rosales also received first team honors for the second year in a row, posting the fourth-best pinfall average among SWAC athletes at 182.30.

PVAMU Junior Asia Wren received second team honors after posting a 180.90 pinfall average in league play, finishing seventh in individual standings. Prairie View A&M’s Glenn White won league Coach of the Year honors.

This postseason tournament victory gives the Lady Panthers their third tournament title in six appearances. The win also clinched an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Women’s Bowling National Championship slated to be held April 7-10 in Kansas City, Mo. The NCAA Women’s Bowling Selection Show will air on Wednesday, March 31 at 3:00 p.m., streaming live on NCAA.com.

The 2021 SWAC Women’s Bowling Championship is scheduled to air tape-delayed on ESPNU on Monday, March 29 at 5:00 pm CST.
