PRAIRIE VIEW – The Southwestern Athletic Conference recognized its 2019-20 Academic Award recipients and SWAC Commissioner's Honor Roll members, with Prairie View A&M student-athletes being well-represented.

Nearly 180 Panthers and Lady Panthers garnered Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction, which recognized student-athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better during the 2019-20 academic year.

In all, each sport was represented with multiple honorees, and seven programs had at least 10 student-athletes maintain a 3.0 GPA or better during the past school year. Baseball led all men's teams with 21 players to achieve a 3.0 or higher, while women's track and field/cross country paced all programs with 30 athletes to reach or exceed the 3.0 GPA threshold.

The league announced that during this past academic term, over 1,700 student-athletes within the conference achieved historic academic success during the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters, marking a significant increase of over 11.7 percent from the previous academic term.

"The department as a whole is proud to see so many of our student-athletes recognized by the league office for their dedication in the classroom," said PVAMU Interim Athletics Director Alicia Pete. "As we say, Prairie View produces productive Panthers, and this is just another instance of proof of that. We're committed toward nurturing the growth and development of our student-athletes in all facets, with an emphasis on the student aspect. Our men and women have certainly seen their hard work rewarded."
