Turner to launch partnership with Prairie View A&M to address health disparities in Houston

HOUSTON – Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced Monday a partnership with Prairie View A&M University aimed at addressing health disparities in various communities across Houston.

Turner said the partnership will benefit Houston’s underserved and under-resourced communities by investing in programs and services that will address challenges impacting the state’s diverse socioeconomic communities.

PVAMU’s Healthy Houston Initiatives will focus on neighborhoods such as Third Ward, Sunnyside, Denver Harbor, Acres Home, Kashmere Gardens, Cuney Homes, Haverstock and other specific Houston-area communities and neighborhoods, Turner said. The goal is to improve the selected underserved communities' health, nutrition and wellness, according to the mayor.

The initiative will expand awareness of healthy living programs, health services and educate residents on how to live a healthy lifestyle through its resources.
