Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
Effective September 1, 2003, the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP) law was repealed and replaced by the Texas Success Initiative (TSI). The TSI requires students to be assessed in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics skills PRIOR to enrolling in college and to be advised based on the results of the assessment. Please review the following Prairie View A&M University incoming student information. Prairie View A&M University uses the TSI Assessment as the tool for TSI. Student must have valid documentation for a placement test exemption (see below) on file with the University Admissions Office or must have taken and passed all sections of the current ACPE prior to enrolling in college-level classes. A student is exempt from taking the TSI Assessment based on the following test scores (minimum):

|TAKS||3 Writing Composition AND a||2200 EN/LA||2200|
SAT and ACT scores are only valid for 5 years from the date of testing and all requirements listed above must be met on the same test date. TAKS scores are valid for only 3 years from the date of testing and scores for exemption purposes must be on the first attempt. Students wishing to be exempt from the TSI Assessment must have the minimum SAT/ACT Combined/Composite scores above. None of these will stand alone. You must meet the minimum requirements across the board. Students wishing to be exempt from the TSI Assessment must have the minimum TAKS Writing AND Verbal scores above. These two scores go together and you cannot be exempt from one without the other. The Math score will stand alone. A student is exempt from taking the TSI Assessment based on the following test scores (minimum):
Enrolled prior to August 26, 2013:

Other exemptions include:
- A student who has graduated with an associate or baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- A student who is serving on active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States, the Texas National Guard, or as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States and has been serving for at least three years preceding enrollment. A certified copy of orders or documentation showing length of service is required.
- A student who on or after August 1, 1990, was honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States. A certified copy of the certificate of release is required.
