Digital Technologies for Support of the Teaching/Learning Process

Prairie View A&M University has embarked upon an aggressive plan to infuse technology into its educational programs to increase student learning and to provide opportunities for faculty and student involvement in the latest technology innovations. This activity addresses some elements of this educational strategy through enhanced use of the Internet both for web and video based training activities and for interaction with the larger global community. The elements addressed in this activity are WebCT 6.0, Digital Communications, The Access Grid, and Telemedicine.

Accomplishments

    • WebCT 8.0 has been installed and fully implemented as the primary University Learning Management System.
    • The video conferencing capacity of the Polycom MGC 100 Video Switch has been expanded to include support for 48 simultaneous 384K calls.
  • The Starbark INV system was installed and is fully operational. The University became a member of the Socrates Program offered by Panopto, Inc. This program provides access to the CourseCast software which provides for local video capture of classroom or training activities.
