As The Donald completes his first 100 days as Commander-in-Chief, one thing is certain: he plans to erase Barack Obama’s presidency from the American consciousness. Flash back to April 30, 2011. President Obama stepped to the podium at the annual Correspondents’ Dinner and literally embarrassed The Donald. I am not a psychic or soothsayer, but I can imagine The Donald thinking to himself, “I’m gonna getcha!” I believe his path to the White House started that evening.

No one could have imagined that six years later Trump would actually be a part-time resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. (apparently, he still prefers his home in Florida a majority of the time). While the tweets have slowed a bit, the vitriol towards his predecessor is just as biting as ever. He won’t pass on an opportunity to belittle and criticize Obama at every opportunity. I do not think he can help himself.

So, this is the new politics for the next four years? No matter what your political inclination, you should root for this guy to win for our country’s sake. Lord knows this Republic is not perfect, but there is no other place in the world I would rather be. For the present moment, The Donald is my President. He was not my first choice, but hey, you do not always get what you want.

If I’ve learned anything from the Obama years, it’s that just because my candidate is not in the Big Chair doesn’t mean I have to do everything in my power to undercut his efforts. The Conservatives spent eight years trying to figure out how to oppose everything positive associated with Obama instead of governing for the American people. I believe poor John Boehner lost his position of power because he dared to attempt to work with Obama and the Democrats to actually legislate. Imagine that, losing your job because you did what you were supposed to do. Wait a minute. The Conservatives did not believe he did his job. Boehner’s job was to fight Obama at every step regardless if it made sense or not. I guess that’s politics.

Don’t get me wrong, some of my best friends are Conservatives. My wife even has a cousin that makes his living bashing Democrats and misrepresenting history. But sooner or later even he will have to concede that much of the vile opposition to Obama, and the rabid support of The Donald, is race-based. Ok, maybe not my wife’s cousin. Even though former President Jimmy Carter publicly stated as much years ago, he’s found his hustle. I guess there’s a lot of money for a black male Republican who bashes a Liberal black male.

Well, I choose to be better than that. But I do have two kids in college…

Later.
