Welcome to our Homecoming 2011 “Let’s Celebrate” Webpage!

Homecoming is an exciting weeklong tradition that generates enthusiasm among faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members alike. Our activities culminate with the Rick Ross Concert featuring Chrisette Michelle on Friday, November 18, 2011, 8:00PM, as well as the always popular Stage Breakers Step Show and After Party on Saturday, November 19, 2011, 8:00PM.

10 am: Chapel Service

Student organizations and volunteers will decorate the campus and paint the streets purple and gold in preparation for Homecoming Week 2011.
7 pm: Gospel Fest

Opal Johnson-Smith Auditorium
Recording Gospel Artist Kierra Sheard will take the stage and grace you with her lyrical blessing as we celebrate “A Night of Praise.” You will also bear witnessed to PV’s own Baptist Student Movement and PV Mine Ministry, as well as other local performance groups.

Monday – November 14, 2011

6 pm: Century II Book Review and Signing
A noted author, a Prairie View A&M University Alum, will be featured for their literary works.

7 pm: Black Cat Café
Tantalizing poetry and the soothing sounds of live jazz featuring various alumni poets and a student Open-Mic feature. The show will be hosted by Jirmar Proctor, PV Alum and feature various poets representing the Houston area.

Tuesday – November 15, 2011

11 am: Lunch with the President and Administration

Come and enjoy a Homecoming lunch with the President of Prairie View A&M University and the University’s administrative team. Dress to impress and have your photo taken with the Prez! (1 print per person)
3 pm – Power Hour Fitness Challenge
Students and staff members will compete in a physical fitness challenge to promote a healthy living while here on campus.  This event will culminate will a Faculty and Staff versus the students Flag Football Game.

Wednesday – November 16, 2011

Noon – 2 pm: Hump Day on the Hill – The Homecoming Edition
Alumni Field
Come and be seen at Hump Day filled with special guest and performances.  This year, we are calling out all Greek alumni, faculty and staff to come out and show the campus how we use to get down! Wear your paraphernalia and be recognized by the crowd.

7 pm: Mr. and Miss Prairie View A&M University Coronation and Ball

Join the PVAMU family for the official crowning of Mr. and Miss PVAMU during the Annual Homecoming Coronation and Ball. During this formal affair, spectators will witness the presentation of the student organization royalty as they salute the Pantherland Royal Court. The Royal Ball immediately follows in the Memorial Student Center Ballroom.

Thursday – November 17, 2011

2 pm: Panther Statue Dedication

Initiated by former Student Government Association president Bobby J. Smith II, Prairie A&M University will be installing a larger-than-life sized statue of our dear mascot.  The unveiling and dedication of this statue will be held right in from of the Memorial Student Center. All former SGA presidents are asked to attend this event and the reception to follow.  Please register using the form for SGA Presidents.

This Homecoming will mark the first year that we bring back all of our past Student Government Association presidents to convene and discuss Prairie View, its past, the present, and its future.  Please register using the form for SGA Presidents.

5:00 pm – 8 pm: Club 1876 – Faculty, Staff, and Alumni Reception
Pardus Dining Hall
Break away from the traditional Homecoming crowd and truly “Set Your Homecoming Out”! Featuring the sounds of Joe Carmouche, this reprise of Club 1876 will be the perfect opportunity for faculty, staff, and alumni to mix and mingle in the spirit of Homecoming.

6 pm: Purple and Gold Preview
Mock Funeral, Pep Rally, and Light Show

William “Billy” J. Nicks, Sr. Athletic Complex (outside).
This series of spirit events marks the eve of the Homecoming Football Game. Helps us “put to rest” the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at our Mock Funeral performed by the Gilpin Players on the MSC North Lawn. Then follow the processional to a pep rally featuring the PVAMU Marching Storm and Cheerleaders, all before heading to our first ever Light Show.

9 pm: Tent Party

Looking for your classmates or old friends? The place to find them is at the annual Tent Party. This is your chance to mingle with your buddies from across the yard. Come and hear the latest tunes and learn the recent dances at the ever so popular tent party.

11am: Fallen Panther Memorial Service

Join us for a memorial service honoring PVAMU alumni, faculty, administration, staff and students who have passed away. Bring pictures of your loved ones to be remembered.

11am: Campus Decoration – Contest Judging Begins

Noon – 4 pm: BET Black College Tour

Black Entertainment Television brings you the BET Black College Tour featuring games, entertainment, contests, and giveaways.

8 pm: Homecoming Concert with Rick Ross featuring Chrisette Michelle

Doors open at 6:45pm. Show starts at 8:00pm
The BOSS comes to “The Hill” for this years’ Homecoming Concert along with Chrisette Michelle.
Prepare to experience “Push It” and “Blowing Money Fast” live right here in Pantherland.

Saturday – November 19, 2011

9:15 am: Homecoming Parade
The “Parade of Champions” returns featuring bands, floats and other participating groups. Brace yourself as the sounds and sites travel through beautiful downtown Prairie View, Texas via University Drive. Emceed by KPVU, The “Parade of Champions” culminates on the campus of PVAMU by way of L.W. Minor Street. Get there early for a good seat!

With everything from food to games, exhibits and vendors, Reunion Row is the place to be seen. Booths will be set up well into the evening.
2 pm: Football Game – PVAMU Panthers versus the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs
Blackshear Stadium
Watch as the Panthers take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs as there 2011 Homecoming competitors.
8 pm: Stage Breakers Step Show and After Party
William “Billy” J. Nicks Sr. Building
Come see National Pan Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Council of Student Organizations (CSO) compete for over $9,000 in cash and prizes.
