Welcome to Womens Council

The Women’s Council for Leadership and Service, has a core mission to: Serve as an advocacy and action body dedicated to developing female students into successful professionals.  The goal of the Council is “Enhancing the social, cultural and professional development of female students.”  Any member of the University community, including faculty, staff and students, is welcomed to join the Council which meets about 5 times a year.  To achieve its goal, the Council plans and supports programs that help to elevate the status of women.

Since its inception, the Council has invited guest speakers to campus, prepared a university-wide calendar of events for Women’s History Month, and advocated for the participation of women on university committees and programs.  Annual events supported by the Council include a speaker to Kick-Off Women’s History Month activities, a Book Review during Women’s History Month and the Hattitude and Tea Party.  A series of activities are being supported by the Council over the next two years as the University recognizes its 140th Anniversary by highlighting women who have played an important role in creating Prairie View A&M University.
