Service-Learning For Faculty
~The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just that little extra~
Service-learning is an excellent way to engage material in the classroom by providing students an opportunity to make their academic studies immediate and applicable. Students use academic concepts and link them to actual community problems. Instructors that use service-learning in their classrooms experience a higher level of enthusiasm and engagement by our students that result in an enhanced understanding and retention of the material.
Service-learning in the classroom:
- Encourages an array of learner-centered teaching strategies.
- Increases potential for research and publication.
- Enhances students’ civic responsibility and leadership.
- Links curriculum learning objectives to service opportunities in the community
