Frank JacksonThe Governmental Relations Office at Prairie View A&M University is a part of Student Affairs & Institutional Relations.  It is tasked with staying abreast of laws and legislative issues on a local, state and federal basis which impact the university. This office serves as the university’s representative with respect to community initiatives on local, statewide and regional basis, particularly as it relates to Prairie View A&M University’s relevancy in the community as a “Land Grant University” and as a Texas constitutionally designated “Institution of the First Class.”

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

  • Keep abreast of pending laws, public policies and or legislative issues on a local, state wide and federal basis which impacts the university.
  • Serve as the university’s representative to the Texas A&M University System’s Governmental Relations – State Affairs team, attend all meetings and represent the interest of Prairie View A&M University.
  • Work through the Office of the President on all matters at both the state and federal levels that require official requests, responses, testimony and or resources.
  • Develop research and position papers for the president regarding community and governmental issues.
  • Serve as the university’s representative with respect to community initiatives on a local, regional, and statewide basis.
  • Work with county, city and other elected and or appointed officials on a variety of issues of mutual interest and interact with local and community organizations.
  • Work closely with the Texas Legislative Information Computer Network and/or other like vendors in monitoring state legislation.
  • Handle inquiries from elected officials informed or inquiring about campus events and activities.
  • Monitor federal regulatory agencies, legislation, and interact with senators and other members of congress on a variety of issues of interest to the university departments in conjunction with the office of the president.
  • Liaison with the University’s radio station, KPVU-FM 91.3, and produce a public affairs talk show called “On the Hill with Frank Jackson”.
  • Serve as a member of the Building Naming Committee, Continuing Education Committee, a member of the Prairie View A&M University Sports Hall of Fame, Cultural & Historical Marker Committee, Military Friendly Committee and the Humanitarian Awards Committee.
