Internships for Counseling and Social Work practicum students with AVDA (Houston, TX)

Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) is a private non-profit (501)(c)(3) organization founded in 1980 by the National Council of Jewish Women, located in downtown Houston. AVDA provides counseling, advocacy, safety planning, and legal representation to victims of domestic abuse while also offering intervention services to domestic violence perpetrators. We are a unique non-profit that has served Houston for over 35 years with the mission to end family violence by advocating for the safety and self-determination of victims, promoting accountability for abusers and fostering a community response to abuse.

AVDA is excited to announce that we are currently accepting counseling and social work practicum students for the spring and summer semesters of 2017. LPC-Interns with an existing supervisor are also encouraged to apply. A small stipend is available to successful intern candidates.

Opportunities to gain direct and indirect client experience is via client intakes for counseling and support groups, providing individual counseling to clients, co-facilitating victims support group and partaking in outreach initiatives as well as co-facilitating psychoeducational groups revolving around primary prevention with the youth population.

As of now, hours available for interns will be between the hours of 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.
