January, 2018

During the 2018 NASA Human Research Program (HRP) Investigators’ Workshop (Theme: The Gateway to Mars) held from 22nd thru 25th January – the translation research group, TRISH (Translational Research Institute for Space Health) of Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) gave a challenge for a Synergy Grant Opportunity with a 48hrs of time for response. As part of the awards ceremony, Dr Wotring of TRISH, BCM announced the winner from potentially several responses (more than ten applications).

Dr Huichen Wang’s proposal (Synergistic Study of Radioprotection Mechanisms Between Flies and Human Hippocampal Neurons) as the PI was the only one selected and called out as “the most creative and highly innovative collaborative research from Prairie View A&M University in partnership with Dr Fox of the Duke University”.  Indeed it was an honor to hear our institution’s name announced and recognized among 500+ research scientists at the HRP Meeting and most of them have been working on NASA grants for decades.

Once this grant is established between CRI / RaISE (PVAMU) and TRISH (BCM) with Dr Fox (Duke), we hope to expand and realize greater opportunities ahead in the Translation Research endeavors.
