No, you can apply for a in-school deferment by contacting the Department of Education: studentaid.ed.gov/repay-loans
The six-drop rule is a requirement mandated by the Texas State Legislature which dictates that students attending public institutions since the fall of 2007 cannot drop more than six classes during the “W” period in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. It is not a hold! It is only a notification to the student and academic advisors that the student has only that number of drops remaining (in the “W” period) –in this case five remaining, during their matriculation towards a Bachelor’s degree. It does not reduce or limit current Financial Aid.
The only time the student will need to contact the Registrar’s Office is if they are a graduate student or they have “0 Drops Remaining”.

- Click the “Student” tab.
- Select “Student Records”.
- Select “Enrollment Verification”.
- Read the information and proceed to the National Student Clearinghouse.
- Read the National Student Clearinghouse instructions to print the Enrollment Verification.
- Log-off after Enrollment Verification prints to protect the privacy of your records.
