General Information

Are there any prerequisites for attending orientation?
Students must be admitted to the university, The THEA Test or proof of exemption must be on file to register for classes on the day of orientation.  It is better to still attend orientation and take the THEA Test at your earliest convenience to receive other important university information.

Do I have to take the THEA Test?
The THEA Test must be taken prior to students receiving academic advisement and class registration.  Some are exempt but must show proof.  Contact the Testing Center at 936-261-3610 with questions. However, you can also visit the Testing Center website for additional information or speak with the Testing Office to confirm your status.  Currently these are the exemptions: SAT (Combined 1070, both Verbal and Math minimums of 500 each); ACT (Combined 23, both Verbal and Math minimums of 19 each); TAKS ( Writing 3, ELA 2200 minimum and Math 2200 minimum)

I am in a summer program so must I attend Orientation?
Students participating in summer programs are still required to participate in New Student Orientation. Your summer department will orient you to your department, but New Student Orientation will acquaint you with the services that the university provides. Student should sign up for an orientation date that will not conflict with their summer program.  Contact your summer department head or our office.

I received confirmation for a date I did not select as my first choice.
The office does its best to give students’ their first choice of date, but spaces are filled on a first come first serve basis.  The office asks students to select their first, second and third choice of date for this reason.  Once the maximum capacity is reached for session dates, that date is no longer confirmed and will be removed from online. Students can call the office to see if there is space for another session.

What do I bring to Orientation?
Print your electronic confirmation card
Bring any documents you need to submit to offices on campus
