Letter from the President

Student Government President 2010-2011 - Bobby J. Smith II Welcome to SGA online,

As the students, faculty and staff of Prairie View A&M University embark upon a new school year, I think about the endless possibilities ahead, full of anticipation, and hope.

Hello, I am Bobby J. Smith, II and it is my privilege, as President of the Prairie View A&M University Student Government Association 2010-2011, to welcome you to our website. Founded in 1876, Prairie View A&M University is the second oldest public institution of higher education in the state of Texas. My role as SGA president is to be an advocate for the student body and to support the fulfillment of any student concerns. The Student Government Association is organized to be an advocate for the general student body, assist in maintaining a safe, active learning environment fostering student matriculation, and possess the students’ confidence in believing that when change is needed it can be accomplished through SGA. SGA is not just a body of constituent and non- constituent members that implement policy for students; every student at PVAMU is a member of SGA.

The ultimate goal this year is Restoration of Student life here at PVAMU. SGA will empower students to realize the power we have to change the university. As I have stated before, “Without the Students, there is no Prairie View A&M University”. Students must come together wholeheartedly and change will occur not only within each students’ life but also in student leadership, activities, morale, legacy and most importantly, services. With hard work and diligence, Restoration will occur!

I encourage you to stop by the SGA office on the second floor of the Willie A. Tempton Memorial Student Center (MSC) in Suite 223 to visit SGA and see those who are working for you. Your questions, concerns, comments, and suggestions are always welcome, and will help me in my role as a student advocate.

I wish the entire student body great success in every endeavor pursued. Here at Prairie View we are known for the mantra “Prairie View Produces Productive People”, as well as preeminent people. Every student at PVMAU is a leader in their own capacity.

Sincerely,
Bobby J. Smith, II
