Mission

Service-Learning at PVAMU promotes civic engagement by extending the classroom to the community,
and with the support of community partners supports the teaching and learning of our students while
enriching our community.

Goals

The Service-Learning Program is committed to enhancing opportunities for service-learning. The five
year goals are as follows:

•    For every student to have the opportunity to participate in at least one service-learning experience either locally, nationally or internationally.

•    To support student research projects through faculty integration best practices for community-based research that involves service-learning.

•    To support faculty efforts to develop new pedagogy that promotes active learning and critical thinking.

•    Support faculty in developing service-learning courses and designate those service-learning courses in the University course catalogue.

•    Promote faculty research and scholarship in service-learning and ensure that each college and school develops a statement on service-learning and recognizes it within the tenure process.

The Office of Institutional Relations and Public Service seeks to encourage and promote service in the
educational experience of each student, so that they can become lifelong learners and civic leaders.
