Service Learning Overview

“Producing Productive People” for the World"

Throughout its long history, Prairie View A&M University has been intricately connected to the community in ways that have changed over time.  As a land grant institution, its embraces its mission of teaching, research and service in ways that improve lives, strengthen the community locally, nationally and globally while fostering a spirit of service and civic engagement among its students.  Service-learning provides the opportunity for faculty, staff and students to work with the community to make this a reality.

As a member of Texas and National Campus Compact, a coalition of nearly 1,100 college and university presidents-  PVAMU is committed to using service-learning to address some of the state’s most critical needs in the areas of education, health, the environment, arts and culture, economic well-being, community vitality and civic engagement.  Our goal is to focus the use of university and community resources appropriate for improving the health, education, socio-economic, and cultural well-being of the populations in which we interact.
