About Us
The Construction & Planning Office is a regulatory and service entity of the Physical Plant for the university. This office enforces all building codes, initiates minor construction projects, oversees planning, design and construction, inspects all construction projects related to the university and supervises the Planning Room which is the library for university building construction. Presently, Construction & Planning is in a transition period. The goal is to merge new technology and programming with our present system of checks and balances to include staff, software, equipment, material and office space.
The Construction & Planning Office is governed by the Construction & Planning Office Supplemental Policies & Procedures Manual, TAMUS Facilities Planning & Construction Policies & Procedures, the State of Texas Regulations & Federal Guidelines.
The Construction Area handles regulatory compliance for building construction and infrastructure in conjunction with (EHS) Environmental Health & Safety. Our area initiates all minor rehabilitation and new construction below $2,000,000.00. Projects not handled by us are monitored for compliance. The Construction & Planning Office also acts as a coordinator for all TAMUS construction taking place on the university campus. Furthermore, the Construction & Planning Office coordinates and inspects in-house campus projects as well as controls, tracks and disburse funding for most construction and deferred maintenance projects done in-house.
The Planning Area contains all the drawing files for each building on campus as well as the specifications. This area disburses drawings, bid packages, specifications and other Operation & Maintenance information per request. All in-house minor modifications can be designed at this location as well. The Planning Room also offers student employment and training.
Construction & Planning has three prominent services which it provides to the university as a whole. They are project management services for new construction/rehabilitation, quality control and quality assurance. The Construction & Planning Office also provides and administer the operational maintenance program and the preventative maintenance program for minor and major projects under TAMUS and our area. The assessment of these areas are as noted.
Project Management - coordination and implementation of university projects.
Quality Assurance - applies to university projects not taken thru Construction & Planning. These projects are inspected for federal, state, local codes/guidelines compliance only. These projects require registration.
Quality Control - applies to university projects initiated thru Construction & Planning. These projects are managed by Construction & Planning from initiation to completion.
Construction & Planning Operational Maintenance Program exist to give support only to other Departments during emergencies, regulatory enforcement, the warranty period and infrastructure breakdowns due to continued taxation of equipment. Reference assistance is located in the Planning Room Library which contains the operation and maintenance manuals.
The Preventative Maintenance Program is designed to follow-up on warranty work of completed projects done by the Construction & Planning Office and TAMUS. This program consists of the tracking of vendors performance regarding installation, material and equipment use.
