WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Students who are completing grades 9, 10, and 11 with a minimum 2.50 GPA are eligible to apply. Admission is competitive and is based on the student’s academic record; achievement tests scores, and essay and counselor recommendation. The PSAT, SAT and or ACT scores are considered, if available. Texas students TAAS/TAKS scores will be considered and may be a factor in the selection process.
WHAT DOES IT COST? TUITION, ROOM AND BOARD (TRB) FOR EACH STUDENT IS APPROXIMATELY $1,500.00. Prairie View A&M University pays the TRB with contributions from the PVAMU Parents Association and community organizations.
STUDENT ADMISSION/ACTIVITY FEE IS $250.00. Each student is required to pay a fee of $250.00 upon acceptance in the program. The fee is non-refundable. Parents are responsible for the student’s transportation from home to the university and return. Students traveling to the Houston/Prairie View areas by commercial means will be met at the appropriate arrival facility by university personnel and will be provided transportation to the campus.
LIVING ARRANGEMENTS AT THE INSTITUTE. Participants are housed two per room under supervision of a professional residential hall director and College Student Peer Advisors in the University College Residential complex. Male and female students are housed in separate buildings. Three meals are served each day in the university dining facility. Occasionally, snacks are provided during the special evening events.
HOW DOES ONE APPLY? One may apply by completing the enclosed student application form and the academic counselor recommendation form. Attach your academic information and/or transcript and essay, and mail all materials to the address below. Each applicant must prepare and attach an ESSAY (typed, double spaced of approximately 200 words in length, DO NOT COUNT WORDS WITH LESS THAN THREE LETTERS) stating the reason(s) why you wish to participate in the Pre-College Enrichment Institute at Prairie View A&M University and what you hope to gain from the program.
WHAT IS A COMPLETE APPLICATION PACKAGE? A complete application package includes the PCI Application Form, the 200 Word Essay, Counselor Recommendation form, and transcript. An incomplete package will not be considered.
Applications with accompanying materials are accepted Feb 01 - April 15 each year.
