IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL

Dear PVAMU Students and Parents,

If you were selected for verification and did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when you submitted your FAFSA, you will be required to submit copies of 2012 Tax Return Transcripts, which must be requested from the IRS. The process to request and retrieve a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS can be timely and may cause a delay in you receiving your award letter.

To avoid having to request a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS, we strongly encourage and recommend that you submit a correction to your 2013-2014 FAFSA and use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, if eligible. By using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, without changing the data imported from the IRS, you will not be required to submit copies of Tax Return Transcripts requested from the IRS (unless stated otherwise).

Best Regards,
Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships

Example: To make corrections to your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool:

  1. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov
  2. Click "Start Here"
  3. Enter student information
  4. For 2013-2014, Click "Make FAFSA Corrections"
  5. Enter PIN
  6. Proceed to "Financial Information" section
  7. Indicate that you have "Already completed" taxes
  8. Use IRS Data Retrieval Tool when prompted
  9. Save, electronically sign, and submit FAFSA

FAFSA corrections usually take 3-5 business days to process.
