Groups

Group Counseling can be a very helpful and powerful tool in addressing the concerns of students. A group can offer an environment where students can address their concerns, increase self-understanding, and try out new behaviors while receiving feedback and support from peers who experience similar concerns. Groups generally consist of 5-10 members and meet on a weekly basis. An appointment with the group facilitator is necessary before becoming a member of any counseling group. To schedule group counseling, come by or call Student Counseling Services. Groups that are offered during the 2012-2013 academic year include the following:

  • Sexual Abuse Recovery Group
  • Grief Group
  • Women’s Personal Growth Group
  • Violence Prevention Group
  • Assertiveness Training Group

Workshops

Workshops are offered on a variety of topics to provide information that will enhance students' well being and teach new skills and strategies in coping with life's problems.  Workshops are usually one session and last about two (2) hours. Students do not need an appointment with a counselor to attend the workshops, but we do suggest that you reserve a space in advance because of space limitations. Workshops that will be offered during the 2012-2013 academic year include the following:

  • Test Anxiety Workshop
  • Effective Study Skills
  • Coping with Stress
  • Relaxation Training
