About Erma Johnson Hadley:

Prairie View A&M University has chosen Erma Johnson Hadley to serve as speaker for the fall 2010 commencement. The ceremony will take place Saturday, December 18th in the William “Billy” J. Nicks, Sr. Health and Physical Education Building.

Hadley was named the Chancellor for the Tarrant County College District March 11, 2010, by the Board of Trustees, after serving nine months as interim chancellor.  Her appointment culminated a 41-year career with the College that has taken her from the classroom to the top leadership position in the District.

Throughout her career, Hadley has enjoyed many honors and experienced many successes. Recently, she was inducted in the 2010 Texas Women’s Hall of Fame, where she joined some of the state’s most accomplished women. She was named a Local Freedom's Sister in May as part of the national Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and the Cincinnati Museum Center. Additionally, she was named "Outstanding Teacher" in the Business Division, Northeast Campus. Hadley created the TCC Employee Scholarship Program that provides scholarships for the support staff and also developed the Human Resources Department into an office that helps guide and grow the careers of faculty, staff and administrators.

Her civic, business and community service spans over 35 years serving on numerous committees, boards, commissions and task forces where she has held leadership roles in the majority of these organizations. She is the first African American woman to serve as Chairman of three high-profile boards in North Texas -- the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Board, the Tarrant County Hospital District Board of Managers, and the North Texas Commission.

Hadley holds a Bachelor of Science from Prairie View A&M University and a Master of Education from Bowling Green University. She also holds an Honorary Doctorate in Education from Paul Quinn College. In July, she completed the Harvard University Seminar for New Presidents in Cambridge, Mass.
