Dr. Sunil Gadgil is committed to spreading the sound of the classical saxophone to audiences in all settings, including solo performances in symphony concert halls, museum galleries, elementary school classrooms, community centers, universities, and indie music festivals. An active performer nationally and internationally, Dr. Gadgil has performed as a soloist at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, TX, as part of the Austin and San Antonio Symphonies, and in Austria, Finland, Luxembourg, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.
A dedicated chamber musician, Dr. Gadgil performs extensively with the Bel Cuore Quartet (of which he is a founding member), the Elision Saxophone Quartet, and REVEL Classical Band. Dr. Gadgil has appeared as a part of these groups at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Marfa Public Radio, the Blanton Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts-Houston, Texas Lutheran University, Texas A&M University, Houston Baptist University, the Contagious Sounds concert series in New York City, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, and the World Saxophone Congress in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Gadgil’s solo sopranino, soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone playing can be heard on several Naxos, Crystal, and Longhorn Music album releases: Over the Rainbow and Bach Again and Tex Sax: Next Generation with Harvey Pittel and the University of Texas Saxophone Choir, Circus Maximus with Jerry Junkin and the University of Texas Wind Ensemble, and Sextuor with Harvey Pittel and the Westwood Wind Quintet.
Prior to teaching saxophone and clarinet at Prairie View A&M University, Dr. Gadgil taught saxophone lessons as a teaching assistant at the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music, where he completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance. When not teaching or playing, Dr. Gadgil enjoys cooking Indian food, singing with his wife Kristin, and playing with his dogs Tashi and Chloe.
