Audition

Auditions will be held on and off campus. For audition on campus, new students should introduce themselves at the band office, 1F169 Hobart Taylor Hall.  They will then be directed to the location for the audition.  The head Marching Band director or any of the assistant directors may perform auditions. Prospective students may schedule an on-campus audition by calling the Marching Band office at 936-261-3315.  Off-campus auditions will be held in various cities and at various schools during recruitment visits and ensemble performances.

The Audition Criteria

Marching Storm Audition Requirements are as follows: 
All Brass and Woodwind Instrumentalists: should be able to perform:
Major Scales for memory: All major scales (C,F,Bb,Eb,Ab,Db,Gb B,E,A,D,G) in eighth notes, two octaves (where possible) at m.m.=120.
Chromatic Scale from lowest pitch up to a minimum of two octaves.
Prepared piece (Solo or technical study/etude)

All Percussionists:
Basic rudiments from memory (Percussionists will be assigned to various instruments in the
section, based on ability and physical conditioning).
Should be able to sight-read basic rhythms.
