Purpose and Goals
The primary objectives for the Department of Health and Human Performance are:
- To introduce every student to the potential benefits of a well defined exercise program and to provide planned experiences that will result in knowledge about the value of physical activities, essential motor skill development, stamina, strength and those social qualities that will last a life time;
- To provide a broad base of knowledge which will enable a student to specialize or adapt to a variety of career opportunities which include: preparation for teaching and/or coaching at the elementary or secondary levels; preparation for graduate study in health, health promotion, human performance and/or allied health therapeutic sciences; preparation for athletic training; preparation for recreational and/or community service programs; and preparation for professional health and wellness activities at the local, state and national levels.
Special Emphasis Options
Emphasis options are available in health and all-level, secondary, and elementary certification programs. The program also provides options for Red Cross Certification in Water Safety Instruction, Athletic Training and Community Health Specialty areas.
